Cutting Ties of Kinship
قطيعة الرحمSevering or neglecting the family relationships Allah commanded to be maintained
Qur'an
القرآن الكريمفَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَن تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَىٰ أَبْصَارَهُمْ
So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship? Those [who do so] are the ones that Allah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.
Translation: Saheeh International
وَالَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمُ اللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوءُ الدَّارِ
But those who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.
Translation: Saheeh International
Hadith
الحديث النبويعَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا مِنْ ذَنْبٍ أَجْدَرُ أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لِصَاحِبِهِ الْعُقُوبَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعَ مَا يَدَّخِرُ لَهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِثْلُ الْبَغْىِ وَقَطِيعَةِ الرَّحِمِ
Abu Bakrah reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is no wrong action more likely to bring punishment in this world, in addition to what is stored up in the Next World, than oppression and severing ties of kinship."
عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَاطِعٌ
Jubayr ibn Mu'tim reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, "The one who severs ties of kinship will not enter Paradise."
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِنَّ الرَّحِمَ سُجْنَةٌ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ مَنْ وَصَلَكِ وَصَلْتُهُ، وَمَنْ قَطَعَكِ قَطَعْتُهُ ".
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The word Ar-Rahm derives its name from Ar-Rahman, and Allah said: I will keep good relations with the one who keeps good relations with you, and sever the relation with the one who severs relations with you."
