Qur'an
القرآن الكريمقُلْ يَـٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
Translation: Saheeh International
يَـٰبَنِىَّ ٱذْهَبُوا۟ فَتَحَسَّسُوا۟ مِن يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَا تَا۟يْـَٔسُوا۟ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يَا۟يْـَٔسُ مِن رَّوْحِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."
Translation: Saheeh International
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"
Translation: Saheeh International
Hadith
الحديث النبويعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " لاَ طِيَرَةَ، وَخَيْرُهَا الْفَأْلُ ". قَالُوا وَمَا الْفَأْلُ قَالَ " الْكَلِمَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ يَسْمَعُهَا أَحَدُكُمْ ".
Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "There is no Tiyara, and the best omen is the Fal." They asked, "What is the Fal?" He said, "A good word that one of you hears (and takes as a good omen).
عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لاَ عَدْوَى وَلاَ طِيَرَةَ وَيُعْجِبُنِي الْفَأْلُ الْكَلِمَةُ الْحَسَنَةُ الْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ " .
Anas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
There is no transitive disease, no divination, but good omen pleases me, i. e. the good word or a good word.
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلا يَقُولُ أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي إِنْ ظَنَّ خَيْرًا فَلَهُ وَإِنْ ظَنَّ شَرًّا فَلَهُ
Abu Huraira reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah Almighty says: I am as My servants expect of Me. If he thinks good of Me, he will have it. If he thinks evil of Me, he will have it.”
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَفَاءَلُ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُ وَيُعْجِبُهُ الِاسْمُ الْحَسَنُ
Ibn Abbas reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was optimistic, he did not see evil omens, and he liked good names.
إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى إِذَا أَنْعَمَ عَلَى عَبْدٍ نِعْمَةً يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرَى أَثَرَ النِّعْمَةِ عَلَيْهِ وَيَكْرَهُ الْبُؤْسَ وَالتَّبَاؤُسَ وَيُبْغِضُ السَّائِلَ الْمُلْحِفَ وَيُحِبُّ الْحَيِيَّ الْعَفِيفَ الْمُتَعَفِّفَ
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Verily, when Allah Almighty bestows bounties upon a servant, He loves to see the traces of His bounties upon him. He dislikes one who wallows in misery and pessimism. Allah hates the obstinate questioner, and He loves those who are modest, chaste, and sober.”
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِنَّ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ حُسْنِ عِبَادَةِ اللَّهِ
Abu Huraira reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, thinking well about Allah Almighty is a part of the excellent worship of Allah.”
عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " عَجَبًا لأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ كُلَّهُ خَيْرٌ وَلَيْسَ ذَاكَ لأَحَدٍ إِلاَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ سَرَّاءُ شَكَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ وَإِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ ضَرَّاءُ صَبَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ " .
Suhaib reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:
Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it.
عَنْ حَيَّانَ أَبِي النَّضْرِ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ عَائِدًا لِيَزِيدَ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ فَلَقِيتُ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الأَسْقَعِ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ عِيَادَتَهُ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ فقَالَ لَهُ وَاثِلَةُ كَيْفَ ظَنُّكَ بِاللَّهِ قَالَ ظَنِّي بِاللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ حَسَنٌ قَالَ فَأَبْشِرْ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ قَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي إِنْ ظَنَّ خَيْرًا وَإِنْ ظَنَّ شَرًّا
Hayyan Abi al-Nadrah reported:
I went out to visit Yazid ibn al-Aswad as he was suffering a fatal illness, and I met Wathilah ibn al-Asqa’ who also wanted to visit him. We entered Yazid’s home and Wathilah said, “What do you expect from Allah?” Yazid said, “By Allah, I expect good from Allah.” Wathilah said, “Rejoice! For I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say that Allah Almighty said: I am as my servant expects me. If he expects good, he will have it. If he expects evil, he will have it.”
